The National Trust and the Great British Beach Clean

On Saturday 19th September we took part in the Great British Beach Clean, cleaning the beach at Woolacombe from Mill Rock towards Black Rock, we covered 1500m with 25 volunteers helping record what we picked up.

The Great British Beach Clean is part of the International Coastal Cleanup and the data recorded goes into the MCS national database which will be used to raise awareness and run campaigns about litter and the marine environment.

The sun shone as we got about litter picking the beach. A total of 3147 items of litter were picked up in the 2 hour session with plastics being just over 86% of that total.

The summary of results can be found here: http://www.mcsuk.org/beachwatch/beach/woolacombe-mill-rock/survey/2015-09-19/summary

Many thanks to those who helped out and keep an eye out for next year’s event.

Don’t forget to check out the photos.
