Yesterday myself, Carol our new engagement volunteer and Steph our visitor services assistant went to the North Devon show at Umberleigh.
We were a bit dubious at first as when setting up on the Tuesday we were greeted by persistent rain and had to use every peg going to secure the welcome tent, but the weather cleared by the time the show began on Wednesday leaving us with glorious sunshine and a very busy show.
We had kids events such as badge making, brass rubbing and colouring in on offer along with one of the 50 things before 11 ¾ events which was wild art.
The kids came all day long asking for badges and then sticking their leaves and assorted flowers to some card for wild art with some very imaginative art works and badges coming out.
I made myself a badge which I do at most events but this time a little boy thought it was such an awful effort he refused to believe I did it myself!
Steph had a great day recruiting new members getting 6 memberships some of which were families so it was 20 individual members in all. Its great to get so many people supporting the work we do with the National Trust.
Also alongside us was the Lundy island team giving out vouchers and extolling the virtues of lundy, if you haven’t been yet it really is an amazing place!
An ice cream and pasty topped off what was a brilliant day in the sunshine entertaining kids, with some falconry and pipes displays as an added bonus.
