Smugglers and Wreckers at Morte Point – did you see them?

On Thursday 16 August over 100 people joined us for our Smugglers and Wreckers adventure walk. The weather was atmospheric with wind and high tides helping to set the scene for storyteller ‘Captain of the West’

Those brave enough to come along were greeted by Woolacombe’s head ranger Jonathan Fairhurst and his team of guides before being taken onto the Point where they were met by storyteller ‘Captain of the West’.

The Captain took them on a walk around Morte Point where they were amazed by his stories of Smugglers and surprised when they got to meet the notorious wrecker Elizabeth Berry and her crew and witness them in action.

One of the comments cards we collected after the event read “it was a fantastic evening. We didn’t know what to expect and when the actors turned up it was a real surprise and made the evening”.

If you like the sound of this event then look out for it next summer and keep your eyes peeled for details of our family friendly walk happening this October.

If you can’t wait until then to join in with some National Trust fun then you could come to the Lynmouth fete this Sunday, 26 August, where you can take part in welly wanging, coconut shy, plate smashing, bouncy castle, face painting and more from 11- 4 on the manor green in Lynmouth.
