Beach Fence Time

Its that time of year again when we put up the chestnut pailing fence along the front edge of Woolacombe Sand Dunes.  We have done this for over 30 years now and it is very effective at protecting the vulnerable northern section of the dunes from severe trampling in the height of the summer. The beach opposite this section of dunes can have over 10,000 people on it.  Once the summer is over we take the fence down again.

It is quite labour intensive but thanks to all the help we get from our volunteers it goes up in no time at all. Despite a rather wet and grey start to the day, the sun finally came out and it even got warm enough for an ice cream.
