West Exmoor Working Holidays 2012.

Each Year we run a varied and exciting range of working holidays from our Bunkhouse at Countisbury. They are reasonably priced at just £145 per person per week this includes your accommodation, in single sex dormitories, and all meals. Each holiday is themed and lead by one of our knowledgeable ranger’s and a dedicated leader and assistant are on hand 24 hours a day to ensure you get the best possible experience. I have been personally involved with NT working holidays for 18 years now and I think the offer this Year is one of the best I have ever seen. Book early to avoid disappointment and I look forward to meeting you very soon.

West Exmoor Coast This property includes most of the coast between Woody Bay and Combe Martin, the Heddon Valley and Trentishoe Down, with some of the more remote and unspoilt stretches of the north Devon coast. Add to this the steeply wooded valleys of the East Lyn and Hoar Oak rivers where they unite and flow to the sea at Lynmouth, cliffs at Foreland Point and Glenthorne and some 65 miles of footpaths; the result is a spectacular and breathtaking example of North Devon scenery at its best.

West Exmoor Coast Dates

13/05/2012 – 20/05/2012

Task: An adventure for all of you who enjoy a good walk. With a network of over 50 miles of footpaths at West Exmoor we are constantly carrying out repairs and improvements. This holiday offers 3 days working on those improvements and then two days exploring some of the paths with a Ranger who has a wealth of natural history expertise to pass on! Please note Exmoor is very hilly, the work and walking will be strenuous.

01/07/2012 – 08/07/2012

Task: Here is a splendid chance to spend some time with a real character; Rick Blackmore has been building and repairing stone walls at West Exmoor for many years now and we occasionally coax him into passing on some of his skills. This time he has agreed to spend the week with you and our Ranger. Three days walling tuition and practice interspersed with two days of walking in some of West Exmoor’s finest scenery. Please note Exmoor is very hilly, the work and walking will be fun but strenuous.

22/07/2012 – 29/07/2012

Task: West Exmoor Ranger Daniel Ford will accompany you on an exploration of the properties around Exmoor and North Devon. From remote and beautiful Hartland on the Devon and Cornwall border to the impressive high moors of the Holnicote property in West Somerset, from beach cleaning/combing on the golden sands of Woolacombe to footpath maintenance in the spectacular wooded valleys of West Exmoor. Your visit will culminate with a BBQ, cooked for you by our ranger team, of Exmoor reared meat in the wonderful Heddon valley! You will spend 5 days on 5 properties doing 5 different tasks with 5 knowledgeable rangers

25/08/2012 – 01/09/2012

Task: Come and take part in one of our most popular annual holidays. The week starts with the National Trust’s Lynmouth fete on the Manor Green in Lynmouth. Run your own stall or help out with an established one. Punch and Judy, bouncy castle, splat the rat, guess the weight of the cake, all the old favourites. The week continues with two days of footpath work and two days walking in some of the most spectacular scenery any where in England. Please note, Exmoor is very hilly the work and the walking will be physically demanding but an awful lot of fun.

15/09/2012 – 22/09/2012 & 04/11/2012 – 11/11/2012

Task: An autumnal break getting stuck in to some woodland work. Spend the week coppicing in our woods and turning some of the produce into logs and charcoal. Most of our woods are steep, the work will be strenuous and you are going to get dirty but, you are going to have a great time and take home a bag of charcoal you have produced yourself.

  1. charging people to work ,what next?

    • Hi Matt, The money charged basically pays the food budget and the cost of the travel for the holiday leaders who are also volunteers. It’s not a money making scheme, but it is vital for us as it helps us get a lot of work done out and about. You sound a bit sceptical – perhaps you should give it a go and then see what you think?

  2. This is a fantastic post, Julian. I have already garnered some interest from one of my old school friends by sharing it on Facebook.

  3. Reblogged this on Moorland, the Heart of Exmoor and commented:
