Common dolphin found on Woolacombe Beach

This common dolphin was discovered at the weekend by a local marine expert on Woolacombe Beach and this morning, i helped him remove it and take it back to our workshop for safe keeping. The Natural History Museum are on their way up to collect it and take it back to their labs for detailed examination as it appears to have no visible reason for getting stranded. The staff at the Museum therefore think it died of a disease and would like to find out as much as they can to help our understanding of these amazing creatures.

This specimen is just over 1.5 metres long but they can grow up to 2.5 metres and are extremely social animals, often seen in the waters around the North Devon coast.
