We are always trying to think of new ideas for working holidays in North Devon and a couple of weeks ago we held our first ever Art Working Holiday. 4 days working on the property helping to resurface the Coast Path between Bull Point and Morte Point, clearing vegetation in Woolacombe Dunes, Gorse cutting at Mortehoe and a litter pick on the rocky foreshore at Baggy Point.
Sandwiched in between, two days oil painting on the coast. 8 brave people had booked on the holiday and all except one had never been on a working holiday before and all claimed to be novice artists! The practical work was hard but rewarding, especially the gorse cutting day when the rain did not stop! Luckily for us the sun came out for the two days of painting. This part of the holiday was led by local artist StevePP (www.stevepp.co.uk) He did a great job of instructing the volunteers, even me, in how to paint with oils. I can’t say my efforts will end up in any galleries but I really enjoyed just taking the time to stop and look at a view and the process of putting brush to canvass.
Thanks to all the volunteers who made it such a great week and special thanks to StevePP for his encouragement and his ability to always say something positive about our pictures, even mine.
