The Old Smithy annual surf competition at Welcombe Mouth this year was blessed with perfect weather for the competitors, families, friends and spectators. Even though the waves were small the atmosphere was as always great, and it gave people from the local community an excuse to sit on the beach or on the water and catch up. It’s always a great local event with all standards and abilities taking part, and with prizes not just for the best surfer but also for the best and worst hair styles, and even the person having the most fun up for grabs everyone has a chance.
Everyone helped us with a beach clean before the event, and although there was only a small amount it was greatly appreciated and we managed to recycled nearly all the rubbish. Food and refreshments were provided by the Old Smithy during the day and the prizes were given out at the Pub after the competition.
Look forward to next year.
