Hi, I am the Area Warden for West Exmoor.
I had a meeting with Richard Knott of the Environment Agency today to look at woodland management near to rivers in the Watersmeet valley. After a cappuccino and some homemade biscuits at Watersmeet house, (I know it’s a hard life isn’t it), we went to look at the woodland alongside the Hoar Oak Water just above Watersmeet house. The wood alongside the West bank, Aunties wood, was blown down in 1981, I helped to clear up the fallen trees in 1984 and have supervised the thinning of the re-growth twice since. Once in 1995, and then again two years ago. We were absolutely amazed at the number of wild flowers throughout the wood and in particular the foxgloves and valerian.
